Auction Roundup


Tomorrow, 9 Novemeber, Dreweatts of Bristol will be auctioning the charming items you see above. They are Lot 760 and include seven mid 19th century ivory and bone sewing accessories, including a miniature basket, embroidered strawberries and ivory back square engraved Emery. Their estimate is £100 - £150.

Also in the auction is Lot 776 - a collection of handmade and machine made lace and other textiles, including: a beadwork sample on card, 1920s; a Victorian stocking purse; two pierced and embroidered card needlebooks, circa 1840, commemorating Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales; various needles and pins in original packets; crochet and tatting booklets, 1862, 1865 and 1868; another crochet 1862; and other sewing accessories. The estimate for these items together is: £100 - £150.
Meanwhile for sale in Canada by Walkers Fine Arts on 13 November is a set of Cree embroidered items. Lot 335 are Cree adult moccasins. They are early 20th Century, from Norway House. Silk lined, they are decorated with floral designs on front and sides, embroidered in pink, green and fuchsia, rabbit fur border, single sole construction, 9.5 in, 24 cm long . Embroidered strip with linked floral design, scalloped border, 5.5 in, 14 cm long. Starting bid is $150CAD and the estimate is:
$300 - $500CAD
Lot 337 in the same sale is another pair of early 20th Century adult moccasins this time with placket and turned over ankle flaps embroidered with floral designs in pink, blue, cream and white, seamed to the toe, five rows of border on the placket, 9.5, 24.1 cm long. Starting bid: $150CAD and estimate: $300 - $500 CAD
Last but not least is Lot 334 - a small Cree embroidered pouch, also early 20th Century from Norway House. It has cut fringes at top and bottom, front decorated only, pink silk lining, compact embroidered floral design in pinks, greens, blues, 11 in, 27.9 cm with fringe, 6.25, 15.9 cm. Starting bid: $150 and estimate:
$300 - $400.
